WARC Immersive Career Development Fellowship (WICD) for U.S. citizens (Fully Funded to Dakar, Senegal)

The WARC Immersive Career Development Fellowship (WICD) is designed to provide an immersive training experience in West Africa for students (U.S. citizens) interested in international applications of the following fields of study: public relations, international education, information technology, accounting, library sciences. The WICD Fellow will work with a professional staff member at the West African Research Center in Dakar, Senegal, to learn applications of their chosen field of study in a non-profit organization within a Senegalese context.

Benefits

  • This fellowship provides round trip travel to Dakar and a stipend of $2,500 to cover the cost of living for 6 to 8 weeks during June and July.
  • The fellow will receive basic Wolof language instruction while in Senegal.

Programme Details

  • Fellows are expected to work for approximately 25 to 35 hours/week, although these hours are estimated and may vary.
  • This competition is open to U.S. citizens who are enrolled in an accredited U.S. degree-granting program at the undergraduate (sophomores, juniors, seniors) or graduate (master’s, professional degree) level at the time of application.
  • Preference will be given to those who have a working knowledge of French, but French is not required to apply.

Students from all colleges and universities are encouraged to apply. Students completing their studies at an HBCU or MSI are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application requirements:
  • Personal statement outlining your experience and skills and what you hope to accomplish during the WICD fellowship (maximum 1200 words)
  • Statement on how this fellowship will benefit your career (400 words)
  • Resume or CV
  • Graduate and undergraduate transcripts (upload official transcripts)
  • Two letters of reference, signed by the recommender (one academic reference required)
